On February 24th, I'll be waking up around 5am to climb 31 floors in downtown Minneapolis. The Fight For Air Climb is held at U.S.Bank Plaza and has become a regular occurrence for firefighters and the public as a way of raising awareness for the American Lung Association.

When you participate in the climb, you are stepping up to make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by lung disease. Participants raise funds to support the mission of the American Lung Association while training to climb the stairs of a skyscraper.

People all climb for different reason, could be a loved one who has lung cancer, or a grandchild with asthma. I suffer from adult on-set asthma and have done the climb each year for the past three years. It takes me on average 7-8 minutes to climb the 31 floors. You can also go and watch firefighters in full gear race up the stairwells for the claim of the fastest department.

You can climb alone or as a team, just know that your participation will raise the funds necessary to provide lifesaving education, research and advocacy so we can beat lung disease and soon find a cure.

So if you are looking for a personal challenge this year, that is attainable, and might be that push in the right direction for that goal you set back in December this might be right for you.
